Our Consultants

We are a limited liability partnership of 17 Consultants Anaesthetists who live and work in the Taunton area. All our members hold substantive appointments in the National Health service, work at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton, and are on the Specialist Register as Anaesthetists.

Having qualified from Kings College School of Medicine and Dentistry, London I undertook posts in Medicine, Accident & Emergency & Paediatric Medicine prior to starting my anaesthetic career. The majority of my anaesthetic training has been in the South West but I had the opportunity to expand my experience with a year at the Royal Hobart Hospital, Tasmania. I have been a consultant in Taunton since 2003. MB, BS, FRCA, AKC

Dr Harris is a Consultant Anaesthetist and Critical Care Specialist who began his training in Birmingham, then added to this with extensive experience gained throughout Australia & New Zealand before settling in the South-West. He specialises in anaesthesia for bariatric surgery, for which he has received national recognition, the peri-operative management of the high risk patient and regional anaesthesia.

After graduation from the University of Bristol in 1996, I spent some time in related specialties.  I then undertook specialist training in Anaestheisa and Intensive Care Medicine on the Bristol training rotation. I have been a substantive consultant in Musgrove Park Hospital, with practising priviledges in the Somerset Nuffield Hospital, since 2007.

Anaesthetist

After training in London, moved to the South west to complete his training in Anaesthesia. He has been a consultant anaesthetist for over 15 years in Somerset working at Musgrove Park and the Somerset Nuffield Hospitals. As well as General Anaesthesia, He specialises in regional anaesthesia enabling awake foot and hand surgery and improving pain relief after surgery.

Dr Ruairi Moulding graduated from University College London Medical School in 1999. He worked in emergency and general medicine in London and New Zealand before starting training in Anaesthetics in London. His London training included a year in the USA - at the University of Michigan, specialising in anaesthesia for Liver Transplantation. On his return to the UK, he worked as a Consultant Anaesthetist at University College London before moving to the South West. He started at Musgrove Park Hospital in 2014. 

Anaesthetist

Julie has been a consultant anaesthetist at Musgrove since 2013, having trained in Anaesthetics in the South West. She has specialist interests in paediatrics and ENT surgery.

Anaesthetist

Having qualified from The University of Birmingham in 2005 Dr Abou-Samra embarked on a career in Emergency Medicine that had him working in London and the Mersey region. However, found his passion in Anaesthesia and completed his training in the South West region of England. He has been a consultant since 2016 and works across multiple sites including Musgrove Park Hospital and Nuffield Taunton.

Special interests include Vascular, Colorectal, Bariatrics and Paediatric Anaesthesia.

Anaesthestist

Dr Keevil completed an undergraduate degree in natural sciences at Cambridge University before studying medicine at the University of Bristol. He trained in anaesthesia in the Wessex and Welsh deaneries and became a fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists in 2015. He undertook advanced training in pain management and is a fellow of the Faculty of Pain Medicine by examination. He is a tutor for the postgraduate diploma in pain management at the University of South Wales.

Dr Shuttleworth studied Biological science at King's college, London before studying Medicine at the University of Warwick. Dr Shuttleworth trained in Critical care and Anaesthesia in the west midlands, qualifying for the FRCA in 2015 and FFICM in 2017. He has practiced as a consultant anaesthetist and intensivist since 2019. 

Dr Gam Ratnayake trained at Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ Medical school. My interests include paediatric, upper and lower GI surgery, regional anaesthesia, complex orthopaedic surgery and bariatric surgery. I am a consultant anaesthetist at Musgrove Park Hospital, and lead for paediatric anaesthesia.
